Young high school graduates during COVID-19. ¿Digital natives?

Abstract

 From the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic generated by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, the Mexican school population was confined to their home in order to continue their school year through virtuality in an online format. This article, derived from an institutional research project, and it aims to show the problems faced by students of a technological baccalaureate in Mexico. These problems  include their lack of digital skills and abilities to integrate into this "emerging remote schooling", which, together with inequalities in access to equipment and connectivity do not allow students to integrate into this type of learning whether as natives or digital migrants, but rather as digital displaced learners. The school population surveyed is a non-probabilistic sample, which prevents generalizing the results. These results were obtained through the survey called "Young high school graduates and pandemic", where the difficulties they face, their emotions experienced both by the confinement itself, and by the current work format were explored. Among the findings, it was found that students despite belonging to a technological baccalaureate have not acquired and / or developed digital skills to face virtual education. The project from which this article derives, is developed in a local context at the very same moment during the phenomenon, therefore, it confers a relevant feature.
