In the current context of educational transformation, learning assessment has become a key tool for ensuring the development of competencies in professional training programs, such as the Technology in Criminal Investigation and Forensic Sciences (TCIFS) program at the Autonomous University of Bucaramanga. This study aims to enhance learning assessment processes and analyze their impact on the Expected Learning Outcomes (ELOs) of the program. A mixed-methods, projective research design was adopted, combining surveys and focus groups administered to all faculty members and students enrolled in the program. The findings reveal a general alignment between the assessment criteria reported by instructors and students’ perceptions, although tensions were identified between traditional assessment methods and formative evaluation strategies. Furthermore, the study highlighted the need to strengthen feedback processes and diversify assessment instruments by promoting active learning methodologies such as problem-based learning, project-based learning, and case-based learning. It is concluded that faculty development in assessment practices not only improves the relevance and effectiveness of the educational process but also serves as a transformative axis for achieving meaningful and contextually grounded learning in the field of forensic sciences.
